Director of Hydroelectric Generation, Iberdrola

â€

I am Enrique Sola, Iberdrola's Director of Hydroelectric Generation, with more than 25 years of experience in the sector and the company. Over these 25 years, I have worked in all areas associated with the hydro business: Project Origination and Development, Regulation, Construction, Operation & Maintenance, etc. I have participated in the construction projects of the two latest large hydroelectric storage plants developed in the Iberian Peninsula: La Muela II (Spain) and Gouvaes (Portugal), with an installed capacity of 1.800 MW.

I currently lead a team of more than 700 multidisciplinary professionals, managing more than 11 GW (4.4 GW of pumping hydro) and more than 160 hydropower plants. Most of my professional career has been focused on the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), expanding with specific projects in Brazil and nowadays looking for opportunities in other countries like UK, Australia, Brazil, etc.

For Iberdrola, Â鶹ÊÓƵ is a critical partner to influence in Governments and Administrations in order to consolidate hydroelectric technology worldwide, especially pumped storage hydropower (PHS) due to the high penetration of non-dispatchable renewable energy in the national electricity systems.

We are at a critical moment for the expansion of this technology (PHS). We must advocate to Administrations and Regulators the PHS advantages of offering firmness for the Electrical Systema, long-term storage, and wealth development within Europe compared to other storage technologies.

On the other hand, Iberdrola can contribute with its long experience in the hydro technologic (standard and pumping).

Iberdrola fully shares Â鶹ÊÓƵ's values, as can be seen in the main sustainability indexes, which can be consulted at the following link:
