Global Executive Director for Dams & �鶹��Ƶ, SMEC

I’m Karen Atkinson, a current Vice Chair of �鶹��Ƶ and SMEC’s Global Executive Director for Dams & �鶹��Ƶ.  I have been on the �鶹��Ƶ board for the last 4 years and am standing for re-election.  During the last 4 years I have been proud to support an �鶹��Ƶ team, that has seen a significant increase in engagement from policymakers and regulators, driven in no small part by interest in pumped storage as an enabler for renewable energy.  

I am a civil engineer with over 30 years' experience in consulting and have spent the last 20 years in Australasia and Asia Pacific. I am currently based in Jakarta, Indonesia.    

SMEC is a top 5 ENR international design firm in hydropower, with a significant footprint across Australasia, Asia, Africa and a recently opened UK office.    

If re-elected to the Board of �鶹��Ƶ, I would be committed to promoting the �鶹��Ƶ priorities of Clean Energy, Climate, Sustainability, Finance, Modernisation and Water. Working with and for members to ensure that the Association is adding value to the whole industry, paving the way for new projects and contributing to thoughtful and proactive policy debate on energy security, sustainable economic supply and environmental and social accountability.
