2025 Board candidate

Gil Maranhão Neto

Director of Institutional Relations, ENGIE Brasil

I have been working in the Brazilian electricity sector since 1994 and for ENGIE since 1996, where I am currently responsible for Institutional Relations. ENGIE is one of the largest energy and services companies in the world, and in Brazil controls and operates over 12,000 MW of installed capacity in 70 power plants of renewable sources, what makes the company the largest 100% renewable electricity producer of the country. ENGIE has built a reputation for allying professionalism, profitability, and social and environmental responsibility in implementing and operating big hydro power plants in the country.

I have actively participated in the development and implementation of the hydropower plants Serra da Mesa (1,275 MW), Itá (1,450 MW), Machadinho (1,140 MW), Cana Brava (450 MW), São Salvador (243 MW), Estreito (1.087 MW) and Jirau (3,750 MW); and participated in the development of the Tapajós HPP (6,133 MW), not yet built.

ENGIE has been one of the first companies to use the 鶹Ƶ Sustainability Assessment Protocol, in the Jirau HPP during construction, in 2013. In 2023 Jirau was certified Gold Standard with the 鶹Ƶ Sustainability Standard.

I have been serving as an 鶹Ƶ Board member since 2009, and in the coming 2 years my objectives will continue to be to engage more Brazilian members in the 鶹Ƶ working program, with the use of the 鶹Ƶ Sustainability Standard; and to have hydropower being recognized as the renewable source which promotes more social, environmental and economic benefits to the society.
